How much ink base?
Submitted by craymond on Thu, 10/02/2008 - 15:49
I found the information in the on-line version in the printing basics section. We're getting ready to make our first prints and we can't find any information on the amount of ink base to use or a final pH of solution to hit. We know 0.5 M M+(aq) but are missing the rest of the information. Any thoughts? Thanks, |

50 mL at pH 5
Casey,
This summer, Megan and Alex were typically making up 50 mL of 0.5 M metal nitrate solutions in the ink base by first adjusting the pH of the ink base to pH = 5 before dissolving the metal. This would probably work well for Fe and Cu, but you can probably get away with less solution, maybe only 25 mL, for other metals, thus preserving your ink base. (It is a bit pricey!)
