Tungsten recipes, anyone?
Submitted by billyjmc on Mon, 10/19/2009 - 11:09
Hello all, I'm wanting to use tungsten in some experiments, but so far the best precursor I can find is ammonium metatungstate, which would work fine, but apparently, nobody knows how hydrated these polytungstates are, so I can't readily make a precise molar solution. Some sources sell specific hydrates, but only when purchasing the 99.9+% purity sources, which I'm trying to avoid due to higher associated cost. I'm scrounging the literature for ways around this, but in the meantime, does anyone have suggestions for drying meta/para-tungstates (without decomposing them :), or perhaps an alternate tungsten source? Thanks, Billy McCulloch |

Tungsten
Billy,
Tungsten is indeed a useful metal and we have had the solubility problem. I suggest the following link to buy the "soluble form" of ammonium paratungstate.

If the cost is too high perhaps we can send you some.

Bruce, Thanks for the link.
Bruce,
Thanks for the link. The cost isn't a show-stopper, I just didn't know if there was a more economical solution for us.
Hopefully we'll be getting some results to share in the next couple of weeks. :)
